SMEGHEADS: THE RED DWARF PODCAST // SEASON 3 EPISODE 2 'MAROONED'

This is the episode where I forced Daniela to eat like Lister did when trapped on the ice planet. she wasn't too happy.

'Marooned' is one of my favourite ever Red Dwarf episodes. You can keep your all-action sci-fi monster episodes, I'm the kinda guy that loves the bottle episodes where its just REAL TALK and REAL EMOTIONS whereas my co-host Daniela is the type of girl who wants to shoot and ask questions later. So you see, she was never going to like this episode as much as me, with its subtlety and nuances and guys telling other guys how they feel...

I think she was just angry at me for making her eat a Pot Noodle during the recording of this episode as I wanted her to put herself in the shoes of Dave Lister as he valiantly tried to keep down dog food, bonjela and Chicken and Mushroom Pot Noodle.

I also reveal a few revelations about the planet they landed on, and explain just why I think this is the next episode of Red Dwarf ever. Ooh below is a cool 7 minute slice of the season III documentary all about 'Marooned'!

Cast and crew detail the making of the Red Dwarf episode Marooned. Taken from All Change, a Series III documentary available as part of Red Dwarf III on DVD. In order of appearance: Danny John-Jules (Cat), Ed Bye (director), Doug Naylor (writer), Peter Wragg (effects), Craig Charles (Lister), Robert Llewellyn (Kryten), Chris Barrie (Rimmer).

One of my favourite things to do is trawl youtube and find the weirdest Red Dwarf related videos. My fave subgenre of these are the amateur dramatic recreations of Red Dwarf episodes which seem to be plentiful. I always thought of 'Marooned' more like a play than anything else, so here are a group called 'Canned Laughter' trying their very best to do this episode justice.

In 2008, Tom Eames & Sam McCathie devised and performed 'Canned Laughter' at Guernsey Youth Theatre, along with Vicky Tailby and Luke Richardson. Tom always had the dream of performing episodes of Bottom (Hole) and Red Dwarf (Marooned) on stage, due to their single locations.

As always I want to leave you with an unusual cover of the Red Dwarf theme, which in this instance is unusual as it is sung by none other than The Cat himself. Danny John Jules' version is actually really good, if not a little stretched out. More songs from DJJ please!

And thats it for this week guys, thanks again for listening and subscribing, and if you get a chance, rate us and leave us a nice review on itunes, we'd really appreciate it!
